Bengaluru, April 20: In a shocking incident, former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found dead at his home in HSR Layout in Bengaluru on Sunday afternoon. He was 68 years old.
According to police, the preliminary investigation suggests that he was murdered by his own wife Pallavi. His body was found lying in a pool of blood with stab wounds clearly visible.
Police said that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon. Om Prakash was found seriously injured at home and when officers arrived it became clear that he had died due to multiple stab injuries.
Police suspect that his wife stabbed him during an argument. She has been taken into custody and is being questioned.
Financial Troubles in the Family
There are reports that financial problems may have led to tension in the family. Om Prakash had taken loans and the family was reportedly facing money issues. Police believe this could have caused frequent arguments which might have led to the murder.
About Om Prakash
Om Prakash was a 1981 batch IPS officer from Champaran district in Bihar. He held a Master’s degree in Geology and had a long and decorated career in the Karnataka police.
He started his service as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Harapanahalli (then in Ballari district).
He later worked as Superintendent of Police (SP) in several districts, including Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru.
In 1993, he played a key role during the Bhatkal communal riots.
He served in important roles such as, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Administration, Training, Northern Range, and Fire Department, Inspector General of Police (IGP) in CID, Transport Commissioner, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Technical Services and Human Rights
He was appointed DGP and IGP of Karnataka on February 28, 2015 and served until his retirement in 2017.
The HSR Layout police are now investigating the case. The body has been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. The tragic news has shocked the police department, where Om Prakash was respected for his long service.
The police have launched an investigation to determine the exact reason behind the shocking murder. They are also investigating if any other person is involved in the murder.
