New Delhi: A sudden and intense spell of heavy rain lashed Delhi and parts of the NCR region on Tuesday morning (July 29). Waterlogged streets, traffic snarls, and gusty winds left commuters stranded.

Major airlines issued urgent travel advisories, warning of potential flight delays at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The weather disruption comes even as the IMD has forecast continued rainfall over the coming days.

Airlines Caution Flyers

With early morning showers pounding the city, major carriers including IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India flagged possible delays. IndiGo, in a post titled “A Rainy Day Reminder,” requested passengers to plan ahead. “With heavy rainfall expected over #Delhi, we're seeing a chance of delays and slower traffic to and from the airport. Please check your flight status and consider giving yourself a little cushion of time," the airline wrote.

SpiceJet also issued a warning on X, saying, “Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL) and Dharamshala (DHM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected.”

Air India, in a separate X post, added, “Gusty wind and rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi this morning… Allow extra time for your journey.”

Delhi Airport authorities echoed the concern, asking travellers to plan with caution due to the sudden change in weather and potential disruptions to connectivity.

No IMD Alert Yet, But More Showers Expected

Despite the widespread impact, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had not issued a colour-coded weather alert by the time of reporting. The IMD regional centre predicted a “generally cloudy sky with light rain at most places and moderate rain at isolated locations, accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning.”

Rainfall is expected to continue until August 3, with officials urging residents to remain alert, avoid waterlogged zones, and factor in delays while travelling. Meanwhile, traffic congestion and drainage complaints continued to pour in across the city, as Delhi grappled with another day of monsoon mayhem.
