New Delhi: Pakistan has violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) for the fourth straight night, triggering a strong retaliatory response from Indian forces, officials confirmed on Monday, April 28.
The latest incidents of cross-border firing were reported in the Kupwara and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir, with officials noting that Poonch witnessed a ceasefire breach for the first time, suggesting an attempt by Pakistan to escalate tensions horizontally.
Indian Army Responds
“During the night of 27-28 April, Pakistan Army posts initiated unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control in areas opposite Kupwara and Poonch districts. Indian troops responded swiftly and effectively,” the Indian Army said in a statement.
The tensions escalated after the brutal terror attack in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, on April 22, which left 26 people dead. The Resistance Front, linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, initially claimed responsibility but later retracted its statement.
In a public address in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared, “India will identify, track and punish every terrorist, their handlers and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism."
India's Strong Measures Against Pakistan
Following the Pahalgam attack, India has taken a series of non-military actions against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, revocation of visas issued to Pakistani nationals, and the immediate closure of the Attari land route. In a counter move, Pakistan announced the suspension of the Simla Agreement and all bilateral agreements with India.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held critical discussions with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan at his residence on Sunday, April 27, to review military preparedness amid rising tensions.
