New Delhi, April 28: Following the barbaric terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, the Congress party has clarified that only the Congress Working Committee (CWC) resolution and the statements made by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reflect the official position of the Indian National Congress (INC) on Monday (April 28). The party has distanced itself from the personal remarks made by the party leaders on the Pahalgam terror attack.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh stressed that remarks made by individual Congress leaders to the media were purely personal opinions and not endorsed by the party. Highlighting the need for unity and a collective response during this sensitive time, he acknowledged security lapses but urged for continuous cooperation between the government and the opposition.

Congress party distanced itself from the personal remarks made by its leaders in connection with the terrorist attack. The announcement came after senior party leaders including, Siddaramaiah and Vijay Waddetiwar made controversial remarks over the terrorist attack, which claimed lives of 26 tourists in the valley.

Jairam Ramesh tweeted, "The Congress Working Committee met on 24 April 2025 and passed a resolution on the barbaric terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam two days ago. Subsequently, on 25 April 2025, the Congress President and the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha attended an all-party meeting and put forth the party's stand. Some Congress leaders are speaking to the media. They express only their personal views, they do not represent the views of the Indian National Congress (INC). At such a highly sensitive time, there should be no doubt that only the CWC (Congress Working Committee) resolution, the views expressed by Shri Mallikarjun Kharge and Shri Rahul Gandhi, and the views of authorised AICC office-bearers represent the official position of the INC."

He told ANI, "...What individual Congress leaders are saying is their view. The Congress party's view is the view in the CWC resolution, the views expressed by the Congress President and the Lop in the Lok Sabha. There have been security lapses and intelligence failures. However, we need unity, solidarity, a collective will, a collective response and constant communication between the Govt and the Opposition. We understand the gravity of the situation and we must stand united..."

He further stated, "...It is right that some leaders of the Congress party are saying several things, but this is their personal opinion. I want to make it clear that no one has given them the right to say all this...The Congress party has nothing to do with these statements, and the party does not agree with such statements."
