Kolkata: West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar launched a blistering attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday, June 8, accusing her of turning the state into a “Greater Bangladesh” through appeasement politics.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Majumdar claimed that scenes from Kolkata bore a disturbing resemblance to those from across the border in Bangladesh. “The streets are red, and even the water flowing from municipal taps is reportedly mixed with blood!” he wrote, suggesting that the aftermath of a religious festival celebrated in Kolkata posed grave risks to public safety and Hindu residents of the state.
Although he did not name the specific religious festival, his remarks appeared to reference Eid-ul-Azha, which was celebrated on June 7.
“When the Chief Minister of the state herself becomes desperate to turn West Bengal into a ‘Greater Bangladesh’ in order to cling to power through appeasement, the consequences are deeply alarming,” Majumdar further warned in the same post.
Referring to Banerjee as the “appeasement-obsessed Hirak Rani,” he further alleged that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government was enabling an environment where Bengali Hindus could become victims in their own land. “Every effort is now being made at the highest level to gradually turn West Bengal into a killing field for Bengali Hindus,” Majumdar added.
Social media footage circulated showing animal sacrifices being performed in open spaces, which drew sharp criticism from right-wing groups but were defended by TMC leaders as being in line with religious traditions.
Sharing another video of a blood-filled street, an X user expressed their frustration and wrote, "After the Failure of Duare Sarkar, Mamata has launched Duare Roohafza. No this is not Bangladesh, this is Kolkata, actually, Heart of Kolkata! Central Kolkata! Streets are filled with blood and people are walking on it."
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress is yet to issue an official response to Majumdar’s allegations.
