Chennai Weather Update For May 28: City To Experience Heavy Rainfall With Overcast Skies; IMD Issues Orange Alert

Chennai: The city woke up at 05: 42 AM, and the sun is likely to set at 6: 31 PM on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. Today, the minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius and 34 degrees Celsius, respectively. The humidity is expected to be around 64 per cent and the wind is expected to blow steadily from Southwest at 26 km/h. The skies are expected to be cloudy, and they will remain the same throughout the day.

Rainfall is predicted in Tamil Nadu

The Regional Meteorological Department issued an orange alert in Coimbatore and Nilgiris districts of Tamil Nadu. Rainfall could lead to waterlogging and slippery roads in some areas. Residents can experience traffic congestion in some areas.

A yellow alert has been issued in these regions

The IMD has also issued yellow alerts in numerous districts, including Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Kanniyakumari, and Theni regions of Tamil Nadu.

Low pressure has formed over the Bay of Bengal

According to the IMD, low pressure has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast. Now, it is likely to move northwards and likely to intensify further in the next 48 hours. Atmospheric circulation is prevailing over the South Indian regions, due to which widespread rains are likely in Tamil Nadu.

Weather forecast for the next five days

May 29: The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be around 29 degrees Celsius and 36 degrees Celsius, respectively. Light rainfall is likely to occur in some areas of the state.

May 30: Light to moderate rainfall is predicted in the city and it will be accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.

May 31: The minimum and maximum temperatures are expected to be around 28 and 34 degrees Celsius. Skies are predicted to be cloudy.

June 1: Residents can experience partly cloudy skies on Sunday.

June 2: Light rainfall is anticipated on Monday with a partly cloudy sky.
