Chennai (Tamil Nadu), July 30: In a shocking incident, a woman was robbed in broad daylight at railway station in Tamil Nadu's Chennai. The robbery or chain snatching was caught on the CCTV cameras installed at the platform of the railway station and the video of the incident is doing rounds on social media. It can be seen in the video that a robber snatched the gold chain of a woman sitting on the bench at the Taramani Railway Station.
The video shows that the woman wearing a saree is sitting on the bench on the platform of Taramani Railway Station, when the thief walks towards her and sits next to her on the bench. He keeps on looking at the woman's gold chain which she was wearing while sitting on the bench.
Suddenly, he snatched the chain from her and fled the spot. The woman raised an alarm and pleaded for help from the other passengers present at the railway station. However, the thief managed to escape from the spot with ease.
There are reports that the incident occurred at around 4 PM, when the station was relatively empty. Due to the low crowd present at the station on the odd timing the thief managed to escape.
The police said that the incident occurred at the Perungudi Railway Station near Taramani. The police also said that the suspect has been identified as 28-year-old Balaji alias Sounder. The police team initiated a search operation to nab the accused.
Thanks to the CCTV footage, police were able to trace and arrest the accused within few hours. During the interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Now the police is investigating if the accused has been involved in similar thefts in the past.
