A celebratory gathering for Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL title win turned deadly on Wednesday when a stampede occurred near M Chinnaswamy Stadium. According to reports, at least seven people have died and several others were injured in the crush that occurred at the stadium gates, where thousands of fans had assembled to welcome their victorious cricket team.

All casualties and injured persons have been transported to Bowring Hospital for treatment and identification.

Horrific visuals of the police shifting the injured persons and those who fell unconscious to nearby hospital.

A visual shared by news agency PTI shows fans crammed on trees and buses as massive crowds gather outside Chinnaswamy Stadium to catch glimpse of team RCB.

According to reports, a large crowd of RCB fans waiting to enter M. Chinnaswamy Stadium began banging on the gates after Bengaluru City Police urged them to leave the premises and watch the celebrations via livestream. The situation spiralled out of control when some resorted to jumping over the gates and fences to get inside the stadium.

This is criminal negligence: BJP

The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed the state government over the incident. In a post on X, the BJP targeted the Congress government, saying, "Seven dead. Many are battling for their lives after a stampede caused by the irresponsibility of the Congress government. No crowd control measures. No basic arrangements. Just chaos. While innocent people died, Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar were busy shooting reels and hogging the limelight with cricketers. Shame on this photo-op Congress government."

The BJP Karnataka added, "This is criminal negligence. Blood is on the hands of the Congress government."
