It has been just one and a half years since coming to power, but the ruling BJP has already begun focusing on securing a second term in Rajasthan, a state known for changing governments every five years.
The saffron party has called all its 115 MLAs and ministers, including the Chief Minister and all its MPs, to a three-day training camp in Kevadia, Gujarat. The leaders have been instructed to reach out to villages, Dalits, and the party's core voters, and to maintain a clean and honest image.
“Go to villages and connect with core voters and Dalits. Visit panchayats, Anganwadi centers, and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to get feedback about your performance and the implementation of government schemes,” said party president JP Nadda during the inaugural session of the camp on Monday evening.
Nadda also warned that the people who constantly surround MLAs and MPs may not be helpful and advised them to maintain distance from contractors to preserve their image. “It is good for you to stay away from contractors,” he said.
He further emphasized the importance of party workers, calling them the backbone of the BJP, and urged the attendees to respect and involve them actively.
“We all should analyze how the BJP gradually progressed and how the Congress gradually declined. The process of learning must continue. We must be the solution, not the problem,” Nadda added.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, state president Madan Rathore, BJP national vice president Vasundhara Raje, state in-charge Radha Mohandas Agarwal, camp coordinator Ghanshyam Tiwari, and all MLAs and MPs are attending the camp.
While the sessions and topics discussed have been kept confidential, sources indicate that issues like good governance, the party’s stance on the Waqf Amendment Bill, and Indo-Pak tensions are among the key subjects.
Meanwhile, the opposition Congress has questioned the need for such a training camp. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot remarked, “Does the BJP high command think the Rajasthan government has failed in just one and a half years and hence requires training? What will this training provide that cannot be done in Rajasthan?”
