Assam Police On High Alert Ahead Of Independence Day To Thwart Militant Threats

The police are keeping a close watch on the activities of militant organizations particularly bordering distrcts of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. It may be mentioned here that last year on 15 August militant outfit ULFA (I) placed explosives across the state including few places in Guwahati. Although with media support & cooperation Asaam Police foiled the ploy in time averting any incidents.

Guwahati: The Assam Police have stepped up their vigilance across the state, including Guwahati, to prevent any potential militant attacks, particularly from organizations like ULFA (I), ahead of Independence Day on August 15.

Talking to FPJ Akhilesh Kumar Singh, IGP Law & Order, Assam said that Assam Police personnel and security forces have been deployed in large numbers across the state mostly in sensative and vulnerable areas.

The police are keeping a close watch on the activities of militant organizations particularly bordering distrcts of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. It may be mentioned here that last year on 15 August militant outfit ULFA (I) placed explosives across the state including few places in Guwahati. Although with media support & cooperation Asaam Police foiled the ploy in time averting any incidents.

Later on Assam Police and NIA who is investigating the case arrested few ULFA (I) cadres & sympathisers.

Talking on the the recent eviction drives, the police ensured that there were no untoward incidents or deterioration in law and order, Singh added.

The police have warned those evicted to refrain from engaging in criminal activities in other parts of Assam.

The police are prepared to deal with any situation and have appealed to everyone to maintain law and order.

Security checks, including nakas (checkpoints), have been intensified across the state.

An appeal has been made to the general public to help maintain peace and protect Assam's reputation.
