New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson and Supreme Court advocate Vandana Sinha found herself at the centre of social media backlash after she shared a video of herself walking her dog, Rio, through a heavily waterlogged street near Govindpuri Metro Station in Delhi.
The video, posted on X, was intended as a dig at the BJP-led Delhi government over poor drainage and flooding after rain, but instead drew sharp criticism for “risking the dog’s life” in the process.
Sinha Slams BJP Government Over Flooding
Sharing the clip of herself wading through the inundated road, Sinha wrote in Hindi that she had set out to take her “furry friend” Rio for a walk but he ended up “swimming” instead.
She blamed BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and PWD minister P Sahib Singh Verma, for turning Delhi into a “lake” after “just a little rain”.
In her post, she said the entire Govindpuri Metro Station road was submerged, adding that she could not tell “where the drain was and where the potholes were” while walking her pet. She also accused the BJP of making false assurances, saying Gupta had “laughed on TV” while claiming there would be no waterlogging.
Netizens Call It 'Misadventure'
The post invited a wave of reactions on X, with many questioning her judgment. One comment read, “Why are you risking a dog’s life for politics?” Another wrote, “As per your profile you are a ‘Advocate Supreme Court of India’ but this conduct states your brain is not functioning properly.”
Several others urged her to find safer ways to highlight the issue. “You could criticise the govt. all you want but what’s the point of risking your own life and your dog’s this way?” one user said, while another cautioned, “This is not done… don’t do this misadventure with dogs… expose the bas but not like this.”
Some also took a political swipe, suggesting the video would lead to more “buck-passing” than action. “You could highlight steps taken by your government for mitigation of waterlogging… Now for the next 4 and a half years, we will see you guys passing the buck,” read another response.
