A tragic incident has been reported from the Govind Nagar area under Masani Police Station in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, where several houses collapsed, trapping residents under the debris.
Dr Niraj Agrawal, Chief Medical Superintendent at the district hospital, confirmed the deaths of three individuals. According to a BBC Hindi report, three people were brought dead to the hospital. The deceased include a 45-year-old man and two young girls, aged six and four.
Mathura District Magistrate CP Singh told the media on Sunday that the ongoing rescue operation is the top priority, with efforts focused on locating those still trapped.
Speaking to reporters, he said, "We are at the collapse site. All necessary arrangements have been made at the hospital... NDRF and SDRF teams are en route. Fire Brigade and Municipal Corporation teams are conducting rescue operations. Investigations will follow; our immediate priority is saving lives. We are searching for those still trapped..."
"In the Masani area under Govind Nagar Police Station limits, a building on a dirt road collapsed. So far, one person has been rescued and is under observation. His condition is currently stable... At this stage, we have reports of only one building collapse," headded.
According to ANI, debris clearance is underway, with municipal officials and a JCB machine deployed at the site.
Mathura CO Bhushan Verma stated that the number of people trapped remains unclear. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken note of the incident and directed officials to expedite rescue and relief efforts.
