Two youths have been arrested in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut, for allegedly making objectionable remarks about female police constables deployed at the Nauchandi Mela. The accused, identified as Aman Saifi and Sameer Saifi, residents of Zakir Colony, reportedly recorded the women in uniform and passed lewd comments before uploading the video to social media, where it went viral.
The video sparked outrage among the public, with Hindu organisations demanding immediate action against the perpetrators. Social media users also called for strict measures. Acting on a complaint filed by Hindu organisation leader Sachin Sirohi, the police registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following orders from the Deputy Inspector General (DIG), an investigation was launched, leading to the duo's arrest.

At the police station, the accused were made to perform sit-ups as punishment before apologising with folded hands, promising to "respect women as mothers and sisters." They were later seen limping outside the Nauchandi police station. Meerut City Superintendent of Police (SP) Ayush Vikram Singh confirmed the incident, stating, "A viral video showed some youths making inappropriate comments about female constables at the Nauchandi Mela." After reviewing CCTV footage, the suspects were identified.
SP Singh revealed that the main accused, Adil, remains at large, and two police teams have been formed to apprehend him. Meanwhile, the Nauchandi Mela, originally scheduled to end on 26 June (Thursday), has been extended till 30 June, much to the delight of visitors and vendors. Security remains tight, with UP Police personnel deployed across the fairgrounds.
