Goa: IMD sounds orange alert predicting heavy rainfall

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rains for the next four days even as the cumulative State average rainfall recorded till Sunday was 1,610 mm.

The recorded rainfall this year is 28.3 per cent more than normal.

The highest cumulative rainfall for this season has been recorded from Quepem at 2,089 mm, Canacona at 1,735 mm and Valpoi at 1,696 mm till July 10.

The IMD has sounded an orange alert predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places in Goa from July 11 to 14.

An orange alert is issued as a warning for extremely bad weather which may cause risk to people and property.

The State is likely to experience heavy rain with winds gusting to around 40 km/h.

Similarly, squally weather with wind speed reaching 40-50 km/h gusting to 60 km/h is likely to prevail along and off the Maharashtra-Goa coast for the next four days.

Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea for the next four days due to rough weather conditions.
