Bollywood actress Richa Chadha, who welcomed her first child with actor-husband Ali Fazal last year, revealed that her first reaction was that of fear and protectiveness when she gave birth to a baby girl. She also admitted that she thought her life would be over when she found out she was pregnant.
During a chat with Lily Singh, Richa recalled the moment she learnt she was pregnant. "I was a little bit afraid. There's climate change, there's a genocide, there's so much rubbish going on in the world. Is having a child a good idea?," she thought.
She went on to say, "When you are super independent, that bit changes instantly, because you have to be responsible for a human being. To commit to a child's only supply of food for the first six months at least is a big commitment. My initial response was fear. I was like, oh my god, is my life over?"
Richa also said that soon after the protective instinct of a mother kicked in, especially after learning that she was having a baby girl. "I was like, ‘We live in India, I have to buy a gun’," she shared, adding, "Then later, I was like, ‘No, we will see. We will raise her to be strong like me’."

Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal got legally married in 2020, and in October 2022, they celebrated their wedding with a grand reception bash for their close friends.
The two met on the sets of their 2012 film, Fukrey, and after dating for several years, they secretly got married during the lockdown.
On July 16, 2024, Richa and Ali welcomed their first child -- a baby girl -- whom they named Zuneyra Ida Fazal.
