Veteran Bollywood actor-director Tinnu Anand has found himself at the centre of a controversy after a WhatsApp message, in which he threatened to harm stray dogs near his residential society in Versova, Mumbai, surfaced online. The actor’s aggressive remarks, warning dog lovers and stating he would confront the animals with a hockey stick, have been criticised by animal rights groups, residents, and netizens alike.

The message, which has now gone viral, reads, "Have come back after a horrifying shoot to be greeted by terrifying dogs barking and not knowing who to bite next... Challenge taken. Have a hockey stick to face them... am warning all dog lovers hereon... take them home OR then face my wrath... my society is given advance notice."

Following the message, a resident of the society, Aanchal Chaddha, approached the Versova Police Station, prompting the authorities to step in.

Mumbai Police officer and senior animal rights activist Sudhir Kudalkar confirmed the development and told The Free Press Journal, "The cops have asked the actor to issue an apology letter."

He further added, "Threatening language was used in the message against community dogs who are protected under Indian law. The Supreme Court has repeatedly upheld their right to exist peacefully in their natural habitat. Threatening harm, especially in a public forum, is morally reprehensible.”

ACP Kudalkar also stated that the stray dogs in the area are vaccinated, sterilised, and legally protected. He praised the residents caring for them, saying they are "upholding their civic duty and deserve encouragement, not intimidation."

"No one, celebrity or otherwise, is above the law. They should set a positive example. Let us stand united against cruelty, and let compassion guide our society," Kudalkar further said.

The message quickly gained traction on social media after animal welfare group Pal Foundation shared a screenshot of the message on their official Instagram account. The post triggered massive backlash from netizens, many of whom expressed their disappointment in the veteran actor's actions.

Television actress Shweta Gulati also commented on the post, writing, "Had such massive respect for this man, which is lost today. What a fool. Let’s pray he gets beaten soon."

"Shame on you Tinu Anand," wrote another user.

"Take some biscuits with you., appoint from your community to feed them once a day, give them water !! # Take responsibility of getting them ABC.. You’ll find the best security and support system for your community!! An actor without compassion is a rare curse," read another comment.

Another user commented under PAL Foundation's post, "Being a ‘paid performer’ doesn’t make him any special. Rules are same for everyone. This hostile mentality is dangerous, immediate strict action needs to be taken against him."

As of now, Tinnu Anand has not issued a public statement or apology regarding the incident.
