A case has been registered against Paratha stall owner Veer Davinder Singh under Section 188 for serving parathas named after 'heart attack' to stand-up comedian, talk show host and actor Kapil Sharma and his wife Ginni Sharma. The police have registered a case against Singh for keeping the shop open till late at night. Meanwhile, Singh has accused the police of assaulting him, locking him up in a room and subjecting him to significant harassment.
During a press conference held at the Jalandhar Press Club, Singh accused SHO Ajayab Singh of manhandling and heckling him. Davinder suggested that running a food business by making parathas at his residence and operating his shop in Model Town late at night, is his livelihood. Davinder suggested that as soon as SHO Ajayab learnt about Kapil's presence at the former's stall, the police picked the owner up and assaulted him. He was also kept in a room for several hours and mistreated. Davinder has sought for an inquiry and hs urged authorities to take necessary action against concerned police personnel.
On the other hand, SHO Ajayab, spoke in his defense stating that the nearby residents had complained against Davinder of polluting the neighbouring area by running his paratha stall till the late hours of the night. Ajayab also maintains that numerous warnings were issued to Davinder, which he did not comply to. He also alleged misbehaviour and a lack of co-operation on the part of Davinder, when police officials reached to confront him. These instances have been recorded on-camera and are sufficient enough as evidence to be presented against the stall owner.
The issue snowballed after Kapil and his wife Ginni, visited the former's hometown while visiting their parental homes in Jalandhar. Upon reaching Model Town, they indulged in the famous 'heart attack' parathas. Kapil heaped praises upon the parathas and the tea.
