As reports surfaced that singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has been ousted from Border 2 amid the Sardaar Ji 3 controversy, Anupamaa actress Rupali Ganguly appreciated the gesture by the makers and took a dig at Diljit and his "confused loyalties".
Rupali took to her Instagram handle to pen a note and without naming Diljit directly, she wrote, "Border was a film that evoked deep patriotism among the people of our nation. It's truly disheartening and frustrating to see an actor in #Border2 who fails to recognise his responsibilities towards the country. Kudos to the makers for showing clarity and conviction by dropping that actor from film (sic)."
She went on to say, "A film that celebrates our soldiers and national pride must reflect that spirit in every aspect. No room for confused loyalties in a film about national pride. JAI HIND (sic)."
What is the Sardaar Ji 3 controversy?
Diljit has been at the receiving end of severe backlash after he dropped the trailer of his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3, featuring Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. It was in direct contradiction to the decision of Indian film bodies, which had unanimously decided to not collaborate with Pakistani artists and ban them completely in India post the ghastly terror attack in Pahalgam.
Not just that, but even Indian fans of Hania turned against her after she called India's Operation Sindoor on Pakistan "cowardly".
However, Diljit and the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 announced that the film will be released only outside India, and that they cannot afford the financial loss if it gets junked.
Diljit removed from Border 2?
Meanwhile, reports surfaced on Friday that Diljit has been ousted from Border 2, which also stars Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahan Pandey and others in lead roles. Film bodies like FWICE and AICWA also demanded that the actor be removed from the film for sharing the screen with a Pakistani actress.
However, another report in Hindustan Times debunked the rumours and stated that Diljit is very much a part of Border 2, and that 50 per cent of the film has already been shot.
