Bollywood actor Mukul Dev passed away on Friday night (May 23) in Delhi at the age of 54, following a brief illness. He was the brother of actor Rahul Dev. Tributes and condolence messages flooded social media, as co-stars and members of the film industry mourned his passing.
Amid the mourning, Mukul's last Instagram post, with a mysterious and rim caption, has gone viral. The late actor, who was also a trained pilot, had shared a video in which he is seen flying an aircraft.
Mukul was not quite active on social media, however, he shared important updates of his personal and professional live with his followers on Instagram.
His last Instagram video, which he posted on February 26, 2025, was shot from inside the cockpit of an aircraft. The late actor gave a glimpse of the stunning view as he flew it above the clouds.
"And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too.... I'll see you on the dark side of the moon. #crosscountry," Mukul had captioned his post. He added Dark Side Moon as the music.
On the same day, he also shared a photo of a yellow aircraft and wrote, "Echo November India. She gave me wings and taught me a few tricks in the skies. #learningtofly." Take a look at his last posts here:
According to a report in TOI, Mukul completed his aviation training at the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (National Flying Academy) in Uttar Pradesh. He worked as a commercial pilot for nearly 10 years and also ran an aeronautical training institute in Delhi. Eventually, he decided to shift his focus entirely to his acting career.
Mukul Dev's death
The actor was hospitalised for 8–10 days, and his health deteriorated on May 23.
On Saturday, Mukul brother, actor Rahul Dev took to his Instagram story to share details about Mukul's last rites. Along with a photo of Mukul, he wrote, "Our brother Mukul Dev passed away peacefully at New Delhi last night..He's survived by his daughter Sia Dev. Missed by siblings Rashmi Kaushal, Rahul Dev and nephew Sidhant Dev. Please join us for cremation at 5 PM."
Mukul's last rites were performed in Delhi.
Mukul Dev featured in several television shows like Gharwali Uparwali, Kasshish, Ssshhhh…Phir Koi Hai, Kumkum – Ek Pyara Sa Bandhan, and others. Over time, he became known for his roles in popular movies like Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, R... Rajkumar, and Jai Ho.
He started his acting career in television with the serial Mumkin in 1996, playing the role of Vijay Pandey. Born in New Delhi to a Punjabi family, Mukul was a versatile actor who appeared not only in Hindi films and television serials but also in a few Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu films.
Mukul was also set to make his Bollywood comeback with Son Of Sardaar 2, starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur.
