Singer Adnan Sami has hit back at social media trolls questioning his citizenship after Union Home Minister Amit Shah called up Chief Ministers across the country, asking them to ensure that no Pakistani national remains in India beyond the set deadline. This comes after the horrifying terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which 26 innocent lives were lost.

The announcement sparked a wave of reactions online, with one X (formerly known as Twitter) user sarcastically questioning, "What about Adnan Sami?"

Adnan, who became an Indian citizen in 2016, didn't hold back in his response. Taking to the platform, the Lift Kara De singer wrote, "Who’s going to tell this illiterate idiot," and added a laughing emoticon.

Several users jumped in, calling him a "Pakistani agent" and questioning his loyalty. A Pakistani user mocked the singer by writing, "Adnan, bhai. Koi masla nhn, aap Pakistan mat aao. Fawad bhai ko chodo—aap ko abhi bohot information gather karni hai?"

The singer fired back with his trademark wit. "Haan… Abhi unkareeb woh dhamaakedaar information aapko udthi hui aaee gi!! Aapko Lift Karade gi!! Enjoy," he wrote.

The social media exchange comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack in Kashmir, which reignited debates around national security and cross-border ties. While the government focuses on removing overstaying Pakistani nationals, trolls seem to be targeting Adnan despite his legal and emotional commitment to India.

Adnan on acquiring Indian citizenship

For those unaware, Adnan officially acquired Indian citizenship in 2016 after a long and complex journey. He had earlier shared that he was stateless for nearly a year and a half, and his application for Indian citizenship was rejected twice before being approved.

In past interviews, he had also opened up about being accused by some in Pakistan of moving to India for financial gain. Clarifying his stance, he had said that his decision had nothing to do with politics, stating, "I’m a musician, not a politician."

Despite continued backlash from certain quarters, Adnan has consistently expressed his love for India and has remained a vocal supporter of the country ever since he made it his home.
