Actor Saif Ali Khan recently took a dig at his own film, Adipurush, which tanked miserably at the box office and was embroiled in all kinds of controversies. During a conversation with Jaideep Ahlawat, he revealed how he apologised to his 9-year-old son Taimur Ali Khan after making him watch the film.

Saif and Jaideep appeared on a podcast together days after their recent release, Jewel Thief, during which the latter asked the former about the reaction of his kids on seeing his films. To that, Saif replied, "Because I have done different characters, he always asks me if I am playing the good guy or the bad guy. Recently, I showed him Adipurush. After a while, he started giving me the look. I said ‘Yeah, sorry’. He said, ‘It’s okay’. He forgave me."

For those unversed, Saif, who essayed the role of Ravana in the film based on the Ramayana, was brutally trolled for his look and performance. Netizens slammed the makers for presenting the mighty demon king Ravana in a caricaturish form, and they also took offence to some of the dialogues by Saif's character.

Adipurush drew major flak from the whole of India, and even loyal fans of Prabhas, who played Lord Ram in the film, could not justify the script and his performances. Made on a mammoth budget of Rs 700 crore, the film was mocked and trolled for everything -- right from the casting, to the screenplay, to dialogues, and to the VFX, which played a key role.

Some also threatened legal action against director Om Raut and the cast of the film, accusing them of making a joke out of Ramayana and hurting religious sentiments.

Adipurush, which released in 2023, eventually managed to earn around Rs 400 crore worldwide.
