Bollywood actress Surveen Chawla, known for projects like Sacred Games, Hate Story 2, among others, revealed how she was shamed by the society as she had her first boyfriend at a very young age. She shared how she slipped into depression when she was in Class 9 due to the comments made by people around her.
Opening up on dating when she was just 15, Surveen told Hauterrfly, "People would talk a lot about it. When my then-boyfriend broke up with me, I started dating his friend, so I was shamed even more. They called me all kinds of names like r**di, f***ing sl*t, and such things. I went into depression because of that."
She further continued, "I was just in Class 9. I was very depressed for about a year, and due to that I started getting migraines. But these conversations around mental health never happened at that time."

Recalling how she recovered from the phase, she stated, "I went to our family general physician and he gave me medications for migraine, that's that. There was no coming out of it as such. There was only coming out of it with experience and understanding. We had to deal with shit and get out of it ourselves. That generation learnt it like that only."
"My parents did not know about this depression and all at that time. It is only in these recent years that they have gotten exposed to these things and have these conversations," she added.
Surveen also shared how she grew up in a conservative, patriarchal family, where conversations around feminism, sex education, mental health and such topics were not the norm.

On the work front, Surveen is currently seen playing one of the leads in Criminal Justice Season 4. The show also features Pankaj Tripathi and Shweta Basu Prasad, and Surveen has been particularly receiving praise for her role.
