Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was arrested in connection with a woman's death during the premiere of his latest movie Pushpa 2: The Rule at Sandhya Theatre. At the Telangana High Court, after his arrest, Allu Arjun's lawyer stated that the actor's custody was only for sensationalism, emphasising that Allu Arjun has been cooperating fully in the investigation.
According to India Today, Allu Arjun's lawyer said, "The remand report doesn't say anything about the intention or knowledge of a possible death. This (arrest) is a travesty of my liberty. The lordship may grant interim bail."
"Allu Arjun has been arrested and remanded today [December 13]. I'm asking for a grant of interim bail. In earlier cases, the High Court was approached after the arrest."
After Allu Arjun's arrest, the husband of the deceased woman said that he is willing to withdraw the case and he does not hold Allu Arjun responsible for the stampede or his wife's death. "I am ready to withdraw the case. I was not aware of the arrest and Allu Arjun has nothing to do with the stampede in which my wife passed away," he said.
Bhaskar added, "My son wanted to see the film and our family went to the theater. There is no fault of Allu Arjun. Police didn't inform me about the arrest."
Allu Arjun has been sent to 14-day judicial custody and will be lodged in the Chanchalguda jail.
After Allu Arjun's arrest, actor and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who is also Allu Arjun's uncle, rushed to his residence in Jubilee Hills in Hyderabad. Actor Chiranjeevi is already present at Arjun's house.
