'We’re Still Around': Anand Mahindra On Competition From Elon Musk's Tesla In India

Tesla, which is one of the largest EV makers in the world, put out a list of over a dozen new job postings for openings in India on its LinkedIn account.

After a meeting with Prime Minister Modi in the US last week, the Elon Musk-led Tesla appears to be gearing up to take the India challenge head on.

Tesla Gears Up For India

In a new development, the company, which is one of the largest EV makers in the world, put out a list of over a dozen new job postings for openings in India on its LinkedIn account.

All these openings were put out in the past 24 hours, and 12 of these positions are to be filled for its office in Mumbai, with one for Delhi.

This leads to the question, Is Tesla finally gearing up for a showdown in India. India, a price-sensitive market, already has indigenous players, including Tata and Maruti in the EV market.

Along with them, Tesla will also have to take on another major giant in the Indian automobile market, Mahindra and Mahindra.

An X user had questions regarding this very aspect. The user asked Mahindra, How will you handle the competition, if dear @elonmusk brings his @Tesla to India? Are you ready Sir? @TataMotors_Cars"

Mahindra Responds

Responding to this question on the challenge, that Tesla poses, Anand Mahindra, the head of the Mahindra Group shared his thoughts on his X profile.

In his post, Mahindra said, "We have been asked similar questions ever since the opening up of the Indian economy in 1991."

Shining a light on the company's history, Mahindra said that his company faced similar questions before, and it has taken on he likes of Tata, and Maruti, along with all other major international companies like Hyundai.

Despite all the competition, Mahindra said that the company is still around or "But we’re still around."

Furthermore, he fervently touted his company's capabilities, and said, "And working like maniacs to still be around & relevant even a century from now. With you cheering us on, we will make that happen".
