Lucknow: To increase farmers’ income and protect them from moneylenders, the government has launched the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme. Under this scheme, farmers can get a loan of up to Rs 5 lakh easily. The biggest advantage is that the interest rate is just 4 percent per annum, making it one of the cheapest agricultural loans in India.

UP Government Running Special Campaign Till July 31
To ensure timely benefit of the KCC scheme, the Uttar Pradesh government is running a special campaign till July 31. The aim is to connect every eligible farmer with the scheme so they can meet their farming expenses such as seeds, fertilizers, irrigation, harvesting, livestock care, and even household needs.
Loan Amount and Usage Breakdown
Under KCC, farmers can avail short-term loans up to Rs 5 lakh:
- Rs 3 lakh for crop production
- Rs 2 lakh for allied farming activities (like dairy, poultry, farm repair)

Regular interest rate: 7 percent per annum
Government support includes:
- 2 percent interest subsidy
- 3 percent bonus for timely repayment
- Final effective rate for farmers: Just 4 percent interest annually
Who Can Apply for a Kisan Credit Card?
- Small and marginal farmers
- Landless agricultural laborers
- People involved in dairy, poultry, fishery, sericulture, and horticulture
- Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Joint Liability Groups (JLGs)

- Visit the official website of your preferred bank
- Click on the “Kisan Credit Card” option on the homepage
- Select “Apply”
- Fill in the required details on the application form
- Submit the form to receive an application reference number
- If eligible, the bank will contact you within 5 working days
