Balaghat (Madhya Pradesh): A 3-month-old baby girl was allegedly strangled to death by her own mother in Madhya Pradesh's Balaghat district on Thursday.

The incident took place in Mauda village, under the Kirnapur police station area in Balaghat district.

According to the police, the accused woman, 24-year-old Dipali Mate, lost her husband in November 2024. Since then, she had been living with her in-laws. Around 1 a.m., she told her mother-in-law that the baby was not drinking milk and was not moving.

When the grandmother checked the child, she found that the baby’s body was cold. On asking what happened, Dipali admitted that she had pressed the baby’s neck, causing her death.

Police received information about the baby's sudden and unusual death from Rajegaon outpost. Acting on the report, a police team along with SDOP Lanji Omprakash and FSL officer Gautama Meshram reached the spot and started an investigation.

During the inquiry, it was found that the baby had not died naturally but was murdered.
