Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A delegation of Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs, on Friday morning, submitted a memorandum to state Governor Mangubahi Patel demanding the dismissal of Kunwar Vijay Shah – the minister facing nationwide condemnation for calling Colonel Sofiya Qureshi ‘the terrorist's sister.’

Under the leadership of Madhya Pradesh LoP Umang Singhar, they reached Raj Bhawan in black aprons with slogans written on them. Following this, the Congress MLAs staged a sit-in protest outside the Raj Bhavan.

Leader of Opposition in state Assembly, Umang Singhar, said, "We the honourable Governor and told him that this is not a matter of Congress, BJP... it is an insult to an Army official. Army's insult is the country's insult. The high court has taken note, but he (Vijay Shah) has not been arrested so far. We have requested the Governor to suspend him immediately."

Speaking to the media, Congress MLA Sachin Yadav said, "The way BJP's senior minister has insulted our country, disrespected the daughters of our nation, dishonored our armed forces, and attempted to break the unity and integrity of India, such a person should immediately resign from their position."

SC to hear Vijay Shah’s case today

On the other hand, the apex court is going to hear Vijay Shah’s case today (May 16). Earlier on May 15, SC reprimanded Shah over his controversial remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.

Chief Justice of India BR Gavai regarded the comments as 'unacceptable and insensitive' and that people holding public positions must exercise self-restraint in speech. "Go and apologise in the High Court. Show some sensibility," CJI Gavai added.

What was the case?

Notably, during a public event in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh’s minister Vijay Shah allegedly called Colonel Sofiya Qureshi— who briefed media about Operation Sindoor that was carried out by the Indian Armed Forces at terrorist hideouts in Pakistan, ‘sister of the terrorists.’

Later, MP High Court’s Justice Atul Shreedaran and Justice Anuradha Shukla took suo moto cognizance on the matter and ordered an FIR be registered against Shah by May 14. Multiple cases have been registered against Vijay Shah across the nation.
