Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Supreme Court of India reprimanded Madhya Pradesh Minister Vijay Shah over controversial remarks against Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. Chief Justice of India BR Gavai regarded the comments as 'unacceptable and insensitive' and that people holding public positions must exercise self-restraint in speech.
"Go and apologise in High Court. Show some sensibility," CJI Gavai rebuked the minister.
Is BJP providing legal aid to its Mantri?
Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate Vivek Tankha, too, questioned BJP, whether it is assisting the minister with its legal team, through his official X handle.
He tweeted, “Mantri Vijay aaj subah Supreme Court ke dwaar pahunch rahe hain. Kya BJP mantri ko apni legal team ke maadhyam se madad pahucha rahi hai?? Yeh desh aur fauj ke sentiments ke vipreet hoga. Isliye BJP mantri ke barkhastagi pe chup hai. Desh premi iska virodh karenge……..(Minister Vijay is reaching the doors of the Supreme Court this morning. Is the BJP helping its minister through its legal team?? This would be against the sentiments of the nation and the armed forces. That’s why the BJP is silent on the minister’s dismissal. True patriots will oppose this.)”
A few minutes later, Tankha posted another tweet announcing that if the Supreme Court agrees to hear Vijay Shah's appeal, a strong team of lawyers will appear against him.
The legal team includes renowned names like Kapil Sibal, Indira Jai Singh, KTS Tulsi, and Tankha himself.
Vijay Shah's controversy is drawing national attention, especially due to the involvement of senior advocates, polliticians and journalists over his comments on Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.
