Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The forest department has completed all necessary preparations to translocate two Cheetahs-- Prabhash and Pavak – from Sheopur's Kuno National Park to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in Mandsaur. The wild cats, both aged 6 years, will be translocated to their new home during the evening hours of Saturday.

A medical examination of both the cheetahs will be done before the translocation. They will then be tranquilised and shifted to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in a special vehicle. This is for the first time that the Cheetahs are being translocated from one national park to another within the state.

The officials of Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary are ecstatic to welcome both cheetahs. They were earlier brought to Kuno from Waterberg Biosphere Reserve of South Africa.

It is learnt that the big cats would be released into the quarantine enclosure at Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary. It is a standard procedure to keep translocated wild animals in an enclosure to give them some time to adapt to the new habitat. After completion of the quarantine period, both cheetahs would be released into the big boma.

This translocation of two cheetahs to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary will set a new milestone under the Cheetah Project.

Notably, it was during the Cheetah review project meeting held on Friday that CM Mohan Yadav and Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav gave their consent for the translocation of both cheetahs from Kuno to Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary.
