Rewa (Madhya Pradesh): A tragic incident was reported from Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district on Thursday leading to the death of 7 people and injuries to 3 others, the police said. 

The mishap occurred when a truck overturned and crushed an auto-rickshaw.

According to information, the accident took place at around 2.30 pm on National Highway-30, located nearly 70 km from the district headquarters. 

It is said that the accident occurred when the victims were returning from Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj after taking a holy dip in river Ganga

The deceased comprised four children, two men and a woman. They were identified as Praveen (12), Ambika (8), Mansi (7) and Arvind (6), Ramjeet Jaiswal (38), Heeralal Jaiswal (65) and Pinky (35). 

Out of these, four persons died on the spot, while three succumbed to injuries later, the official said.

Investigation on 

As soon as informed, police rushed to the spot and admitted the injured persons to a hospital for treatment.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vivek Lal, the truck passing through NH-30 got out of control and overturned on an auto-rickshaw, trapping its passengers. Additionally, both of the vehicles were severely damaged, he added.

The auto-rickshaw passengers were returning to Naigarhi in Mauganj district, bordering Rewa, after taking a dip in the Ganga river in Prayagraj. Whereas, the truck was on its way to Rewa from Prayagraj, the official said.

An investigation has been launched to determine whether the accident occurred due to negligence or a technical fault, the official said.
