The deceased have been identified as Prince Rajput (22) and Ujjwal Tripathi (20), both residents of Chhatarpur.

Their bodies were discovered on Monday morning.

According to the police, four friends had gone to Kolar Dam for a picnic. While bathing, three of them went into deep water and began to drown. One of the student managed to get way back to the shore but Prince and Ujjwal disappeared underwater.

Police and SDRF teams launched a search operation on Sunday evening which continued till late night.

However, the bodies were not found. The rescue operation resumed on Monday morning and after nearly 18 hours both bodies were discovered at 11:55 AM.

The post mortem is being conducted at Bilkisganj Hospital. For the formalities, Prince’s body will be sent to Bihar, and Ujjwal’s to Chhatarpur. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of youth who visit open water bodies without proper safety measures.

Police have appealed to the public to avoid entering unknown deep water areas especially during monsoon season.
