Narmadapuram (Madhya Pradesh): Commissioner of Narmadapuram division Krishna Gopal Tiwari has directed the chief engineer of the water resources department, Rajaram Meena, to clean up the canals of Tawa River before the monsoon.
He issued the directive at a meeting with the officers of various departments on Tuesday.
This is the right time to clean up the water bodies because of less water in the canals, Tiwari said. He advised the officials of the agriculture department to encourage the farmers to grow maize crops instead of growing moong (green grams).
He directed the officials to hold farm schools and other camps to grow maize crops. Tiwari directed the electricity department not to cut power unnecessarily, keeping in mind the severe heat the state is facing.
Tiwari asked the superintending engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) to complete the work under Jal Jeevan Mission within the targeted date.
He said the officials of PHED should visit Harda, Betul and Narmadapuram districts that come under the Narmadapuram division to complete the work of Jal Jeevan Mission. The commissioner advised the officials of the division not to write any confidential report manually.
They should write such reports in the office system to maintain secrecy, Tiwari said. He directed the officials of the transport department to check the fitness certificates of the school buses and licences of drivers.
He was, however, not happy about the progress of work under the Jal Ganga Samvardhan Abhiyan. Tiwari further said the officials should restore the old wells, step-wells, ponds, lakes and rivers under the campaign.
Deputy Commissioner of Revenue Ganesh Jaiswal, Joint Commissioner (Development) GC Dohar and other officials participated in the meeting.
