Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An elephant died of electrocution after coming in contact with a live power line in Madhya Pradesh Maihar's. It is believed that the elephant traveled over 120km from Shahdol to Majhatolwa village, where he stepped onto an 11,000 KVA line and died on the spot.

According to information, the power lines in the area were lying open, which led the elephant to come into contact with the high voltage wire.

The villagers have criticised the forest authorities for not ensuring strict measures to protect the wild animals. Moreover, the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board was advised to be more cautious around wild animals' territory and should monitor on regular basis.

The forest department has also asked the local communities and NGOs to spread awareness regarding these accidents so that the villagers will know how to manage such types of accidents in nearby future. These steps were being taken by the state government so that no wild animal could die because of the negligence.
