Sheopur (Madhya Pradesh): Two newly-born cubs of Cheetah Nirvah were found dead at her enclosure in Kuno National Park on Wednesday late night-- barely four days after their birth.
The inspection team found the bodies of both the cubs in a mutilated condition. Their samples have been sent for testing to find the death cause.
Kuno National Park officials are yet to disclose details on the remaining number of cubs of Cheetah Niravh, if any; however, media reports suggest that the big cat delivered four cubs.
DFO R. Thirukkural told Free Press that all the remaining adult cheetahs and 12 cubs in Kuno National Park are healthy. He further added that since the birth, Cheetah Nirvah was with her cubs the whole time; hence the inspection team couldn't reach there. They inspected the spot on Wednesday evening after she left and found the two dead cubs.
Notably, before Cheetha Nirvah's delivery, Kuno had 12 adult cheetahs and 12 cubs i.e. a total of 24 cheetahs. The Kuno officials have still given the same information and haven't told anything about the remaining two cubs of cheetah Nirva, creating uncertainty.
Three days ago, on November 25, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had expressed happiness by sharing the information on his X account.
On August 27, 2024, a cheetah named Pawan died in Kuno National Park. The body of this cheetah, was found in a drain among the bushes. The cheetah's head and half the body were submerged in water.
