Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh has achieved its highest-ever export value of Rs 66,218 crore in the financial year 2024–25, registering a 6 percent growth over the previous year.
This rise has helped state improve its national export ranking from 15th to 11th. The surge is primarily driven by increased exports in pharmaceuticals, engineering goods and soy-based agricultural products.
According to latest report from the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), merchandise exports contributed Rs 66,218 crore, while IT companies operating from Special Economic Zones (SEZs) added another Rs 4,038 crore to the state's overall export portfolio.
The report attributes the growth to the state’s industry-friendly policies, a rapidly expanding industrial base and improved export-oriented infrastructure. Moreover, growing interest of international markets in products from Madhya Pradesh has played a significant role in this export boost.
In financial year 2024–25, the state exported Rs 11,968 crore worth of pharmaceuticals, Rs 6,062 crore of animal feed, Rs 5,497 crore of machinery, Rs 4,795 crore of aluminium, and Rs 4,656 crore of textiles.
The leading export destinations included Bangladesh, France, UAE and the Netherlands, while the United States remained the largest market for state's pharmaceutical and machinery products.
The state has shown a steady increase in exports over the last six years. In 2019–20, exports stood at Rs 37,692 crore, followed by Rs 47,959 crore in 2020–21, Rs 58,407 crore in 2021–22, Rs 65,878 crore in 2022–23, Rs 65,255 crore in 2023–24, and now Rs 66,218 crore in 2024–25. These figures include exports from SEZs.
Among districts, Dhar led with exports worth Rs 17,830 crore, followed by Indore with Rs 13,500 crore, largely in pharmaceuticals, automation and food processing. Ujjain also posted a record Rs 2,288 crore in exports, primarily in industrial goods, agriculture-based items and processed foods.
Officials credit this performance to the state government’s emphasis on industrial development and strengthening global trade relations. This approach has not only enhanced Madhya Pradesh’s contribution to national exports but also aligned with its broader economic growth goals.
