Madhya Pradesh May 19 Weather Update: State Braces For Heatwave From May 19 To 22 With Storms, Rain In Bhopal, Indore & More

In Bhopal, temperatures may range between 44–45°C. Similar heat is expected in Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh will experience two types of weather over the next few days. According to the weather department, heatwave conditions will affect Gwalior, Chambal, and Sagar divisions, while storms and rain are expected in other parts of the state due to four weather systems.

Weather Forecast

May 19: Heatwave in northern districts. Thunderstorms and rain in

central and southern parts including Bhopal, Indore, Sehore, Vidisha, Chhindwara, Mandla, Betul, and more.

May 20: Continued heatwave in north; storms and rain likely in the rest of the state including Sagar, Rewa, Shahdol, and Jabalpur.

May 21: Thunderstorm and rain alert for almost all divisions including Bhopal, Gwalior, Chambal, and Indore. Weather will be clear only in a few places like Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, and Niwari.

May 22: Strong winds and light rain likely across the state except in Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, and Niwari.

Heat May Increase After May 22

Usually, May is the hottest month in Madhya Pradesh. In the past 10 years, temperatures have touched 47–48°C in several cities. This year, the first half of May saw unusual rain, storms, and even hailstorms.

However, from the second half of May, temperatures are expected to rise again.

According to forecasts, districts like Gwalior, Chhatarpur, Narsinghpur, Niwari, Maihar, Tikamgarh, Bhind, Datia, Khargone, Barwani, Khandwa, Morena, Rajgarh, Raisen, Shajapur, Sheopur, Shivpuri, and Vidisha will face extreme heat. Gwalior may be the hottest major city, with temperatures reaching 46–47°C.

In Bhopal, temperatures may range between 44–45°C. Similar heat is expected in Indore, Ujjain, and Jabalpur.

On May 19 and 20, a heatwave alert has been issued for these districts: Gwalior, Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Shivpuri, Niwari, Tikamgarh, and Chhatarpur. Hot winds may blow in Datia as well. Temperatures could reach 45°C or more in many of these areas. In places like Khajuraho, Nowgaon, and Prithvipur, the temperature may go as high as 48°C.

Meanwhile, Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Jabalpur, Narmadapuram, and other divisions will see dust storms, thunder, and light rain between May 19 and 22. Wind speeds could reach 30 to 50 km/h. The weather will mostly remain stormy and cloudy in these areas.

Senior weather scientist Dr. Arun Sharma said that the current weather changes are due to four cyclonic systems and an active trough line. He said that the impact will be more visible from May 20. Most districts have been put on alert for storms and rain on May 21 and 22.
