Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh has announced its first-ever organ donation and transplantation guidelines, making a significant shift in how organs are allocated to patients. The new system will prioritize patients based on their medical condition rather than a traditional waiting list, ensuring fair and timely distribution of life-saving organs.

According to the new rules, patients in the most critical condition will receive organs first. If no eligible recipient is available locally, the organs can be offered to patients in other states. Importantly, there is no mandatory residency requirement for receiving organs, allowing equitable access across regions.

According to information, to streamline the process, specific timelines for organ retrieval and transportation have been set to maintain organ viability. Additionally, authorities have mandated that hospitals and medical staff actively raise awareness about organ donation to encourage more people to register as donors.

Previously, Madhya Pradesh faced challenges in organ transplantation due to the absence of clear guidelines. This new system addresses those gaps, ensuring better coordination between hospitals and quicker decisions in allocating organs to those in dire need.

Key Highlights of the Guidelines

Organs will be allocated based on the severity of the patient’s condition.

Local and interstate organ transplantation will be facilitated if no suitable recipient is found within the state.

A time-bound protocol for organ transportation and transplantation will be followed.

Efforts to promote organ donation awareness will be strengthened.
