Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Madhya Pradesh is facing severe flooding due to heavy rainfall in many districts. In the last 24 hours, Guna received 12.92 inches of rain. A part of the Kalora Dam, called the west weir, has been damaged by 15 feet, and there are fears that the entire dam could collapse.
Nearby villages are at high risk of being submerged. As a precaution, the administration has called in NDRF teams and the army for help.
Weather conditions expected on Wednesday
On Wednesday, Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Neemuch, Mandsaur, Sheopur, Guna, Agar-Malwa, and Rajgarh. Up to 8.5 inches of rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours.
Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Bhopal, Vidisha, Sehore, Shajapur, Ujjain, Ratlam, Morena, Shivpuri, Ashoknagar, Dindori, Mandla, and Balaghat
Forecast: Up to 4.5 inches of rainfall likely in the next 24 hours.
An alert for Light Rainfall has been issued for remaining districts that may also experience thunder and lightning.

Flood water half-submerges temples in Vidisha
In Vidisha, the Betwa River is rising steadily. Floodwater has reached the famous Ganesh temple located in Rangai on Bhopal Road, and many riverside temples are now half-submerged. Due to continuous rainfall in Bhopal, Narmadapuram, and Ashoknagar, schools have been closed.

30 children trapped in Shivpuri
In Shivpuri, 30 school children were trapped in floods while returning home by bus in Pachawali village. They have been given shelter at the village head’s house since Tuesday and are still waiting for rescue. In another village, Sangeshwar, people are living in tents on rooftops due to rising water levels.

Additionally, floodwaters have cut off many villages. Around 50 people are stranded in different areas, waiting for rescue teams.
In Pachawali, the Sindh River’s level has risen 20 feet above normal, flooding the old bridge and nearby villages. The district has recorded over 1,000 mm of rainfall so far, showing the seriousness of the situation.
Army reaches in Guna
Rescue operations are underway in Guna, where water from the damaged Kalora Dam has entered nearby villages.
Around 250 villagers from Tumda and Bandha have been rescued and are now staying in a government school in Fatehgarh. Two army teams with 15 soldiers each have reached Guna and will now be sent to Bamori for further operations.
