Madhya Pradesh Inks MoU With Arunachal Pradesh To Get 252 Mw Electricity

Necessary to meet the future electricity demands through new and renewable energy sources apart from the traditional ones, says CM

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Anticipating future electricity needs, the state government has signed an agreement with Arunachal Pradesh to procure 252 megawatts of electricity on Friday. In this connection , a MoU was signed between MP Power Management Company (MPPCL) and NHPC in presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.

According to the agreement, Madhya Pradesh will get 252 megawatt electricity (allocated by the Energy Ministry) from NHPC’s Multipurpose Hydroelectric Project located in Lower Dibang Valley district of Arunachal Pradesh. MPPCL Chief General Manager Rakesh Thakural and NHPC’s General Manager Omkar Yadav signed the MoU.  

CM in his address said that to meet the future electricity demands, it is essential to secure power from new and renewable energy sources apart from the traditional ones.

Madhya Pradesh, being an agriculture-based state, is witnessing a rise in power consumption in domestic and industrial use but also in the agricultural sector. Taking into consideration these rising demands, the agreement with Arunachal Pradesh has been finalized, said the CM.

It was informed that by the end of the current financial year, the power requirement of the state is likely to reach 20,000 megawatt. And the electricity requirement will further increase in the subsequent years.

The electricity obtained through this agreement will also help meet the increased demand during the Rabi season. Those present on the occasion included Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Neeraj Mandloi, MP Power Management Company managing director Avinash Lavania and other officials.
