Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Governor has put his seal on the Nagar tatha Gram Nivesh Sanshodhan Bill for acquisition of land. Now, it will be easy for the government to acquire land for big projects.
The rule will, however, be applicable for the projects worth ₹500 crore or for the projects to be set up on 40 hectares. The government will be able to notify the land as the special area for big projects. After the amendment in the Act, the government does not have to pay compensation for acquiring land.
The government will carry out 50% of the development of the land against the plot that is acquired. Before this amendment, only the organisation, like the Special Area Development Authority, could set up projects in the non-planning area.
But now, the other government organisations can set up projects out of the planning area. The agencies that deal with the government’s infrastructure will be able to work after the amendment. Now, the government will acquire land after declaring a complete area as the Special Area Development Authority.
The government does not have to give four times compensation for the land for the project. Till now, it was the policy to pay compensation against the land acquired for a project.
Only half of the land will be developed near the project. After the act was brought to the cabinet, the Congress called it anti-farmer. MPCC president Jitu Patwari organised a protest against the act. On the other hand, the government says the act is in favour of the farmers. Now that the governor has put his signature on it, it will be easy for the government to acquire land for projects.
