Chhatarpur (Madhya Pradesh): Farmers from Sandni village staged a strong protest outside the NTPC office on Panna Road on Thursday, alleging betrayal over land acquisition.

They claimed that despite promises made at the time of acquisition, neither proper compensation was provided nor commitments like employment and rehabilitation were fulfilled.

The agitating farmers said NTPC had assured one job per affected family, a bonus of ₹5 lakh per acre, and rehabilitation. However, they alleged that none of these promises have materialized.

Protesters also raised serious allegations of bribery against NTPC supervisor Betlal Tiwari, accusing him of demanding money in exchange for compensation and threatening villagers.

“No one listens to us. The officials gave jobs to their own people while ignoring the affected villagers,” said Punya Pratap Singh Bandni. Adding to their frustration, the farmers said that instead of addressing the issue, security personnel merely recorded videos of the protest.

After receiving no response from NTPC, the farmers submitted a memorandum at the Collector’s office, pressing for an immediate resolution.

Khargi Ahirwar, leading the sit-in, said the protest would continue until their 14-point demand charter is fulfilled. They also demanded that NTPC GM Vijayvargiya personally address their concerns and that the accused supervisor be removed.

Responding to the allegations, Betlal Tiwari said he was only the security in-charge and not authorised to disburse compensation. “If anyone has proof, they should come forward,” he added, stating that proceedings are ongoing and pending payments might be cleared in 15–20 days.
