Satna (Madhya Pradesh): A joint team of the district administration and food department on Sunday seized 2.5 quintals of substandard paneer from Satna railway station. The consignment had reportedly arrived via parcel from Bhopal.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off, the team led by city SDM Rahul Siladia intercepted the delivery as it was being sent to local market. During a preliminary inquiry, the paneer was found to be substandard and did not meet the required food safety norms.
Food inspector Abhishek Gaur confirmed that the samples have been sent to a laboratory for final testing. The parcel was addressed to a person named Deep in Satna but incomplete shipping details are hampering efforts to identify both the sender and intended recipient.
Authorities suspect that consignment was part of a larger operation to supply adulterated paneer during the ongoing wedding season, when demand is particularly high. Officials believe some local traders may be sourcing such products from outside the district to meet the demand.
The administration has assured of strict action against those involved once they are identified. Investigations are currently underway.
