Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The officials of the Income Tax department are investigating the 'benami' properties of relatives of Madhya Pradesh Food Minister Govind Singh Rajput.

The team is probing 195 acres of land belonging to the minister's brother-in-law, Himachal Singh Rajput, his wife, and son, so far. This also includes about 50 acres of land that were either donated or sold to Govind Singh, his wife, and son.

Questions regarding this land transfer were raised earlier as well. A complaint was also filed, following which the land donated by the relatives to the minister and his wife was returned.

The Income Tax Department has started investigating these lands under the law that prohibits the transaction of benami property.

Income from crops grown on the land under probe

The IT sleuths are even investigating the income generated from selling crops grown on this land.

According to sources, all the properties registered before April 1, 2022, in the name of Rajput's brother-in-law, Himachal Singh Rajput, Kartar Singh Rajput, Savita Bai Rajput, Prathamesh Rajput, and Shubham are being investigated.

The Sagar District Administration has also sent yearly documents related to the yield of which crops were grown on this land in ten years to the Income Tax Department.
