Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has completed a detailed survey of the BRTS corridor ahead of its scheduled demolition.
According to the findings, the demolition work will cost the civic body approximately Rs 34.70 lakh, while the sale of debris, steel and scrap materials is projected to generate a revenue of Rs 3.71 crore. After deducting expenses, the net profit for the corporation is estimated to be Rs 3.37 crore.
The decision to dismantle the BRTS corridor was made by the state government and later endorsed by the High Court. With the survey now complete, the groundwork for initiating the demolition is in its final stages. The tender process for contractors is set to begin shortly, officials said.
The survey outlines that the corridor comprises 10,475 metres of RCC beams, 18 bus shelters and substantial amounts of steel railing, scrubs and other constructions. Demolition of RCC beams, shelters and structures will collectively cost Rs 34.70 lakh, including Rs 17.29 lakh for RCC beams, Rs 8.20 lakh for shelters and Rs 3.25 lakh for scrubs. Additional costs include the removal of railings and miscellaneous items.

The anticipated revenue will come primarily from the sale of 1.53 lakh kilos of steel at Rs 30/kg (Rs 46 lakh), high-quality scrap at Rs 45/kg (Rs 2.31 crore) and surplus items from bus shelters worth Rs 90 lakh.
Rajendra Rathore, in-charge of the IMC’s public works department, stated that the demolition would take approximately two months. Interested contractors must bid on the amount they are willing to pay the corporation after factoring in their costs. The highest bidder above the base estimate of Rs 3.37 crore will be awarded the contract.
This project not only clears the way for new infrastructure but also offers a profitable opportunity for the city’s administration.
