Morena (Madhya Pradesh): The father and grandfather who conspired the murder of their 19-year-old daughter over her love affair in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district were arrested on Friday.
The girl, identified as Malishka, was reportedly in a relationship with her uncle’s brother-in-law, and the family initially had no objection to this since they belonged to the same community.
However, later she got involved with another boy from a different caste in the same village. This caused tensions in the family.

Grandfather wanted to protect ‘family honour’
About one-and-a-half years ago, Malishka had run away with her new boyfriend for three days. She wanted to marry him, but her family strongly opposed the relationship. They tried to stop her several times, but when she didn’t listen, the grandfather, Sirnaam Singh, decided to take a drastic step to ‘protect the family’s honor.’
On Wednesday night around 9:30 pm, Sirnaam Singh took Malishka to a bus stop on the main road outside the village. There, he shot her three times at close range - on her head and neck - and ran back home. A villager saw him returning in a suspicious manner and informed the police.

Family tried to misguide police
Initially, the family tried to mislead the police by blaming a land dispute and falsely accusing someone else of the murder. However, during the investigation, the truth came out. Both the father and grandfather confessed to the crime, stating they were ashamed of the girl’s relationship and felt she was dishonoring the family.
Police have now arrested both men and are continuing further investigation into the case.
