The budget of the Animal Husbandry Department in 2002-03 was Rs 300 crore, which was increased to Rs 2,600 crore, he said.

Once, there was a system of buying milk according to its fat content, he said. The government decided to purchase milk so that milkmen could get the benefits, Yadav said. The Chief Minister increased the financial aid for cowsheds from Rs 20 a cow a day to Rs 40.

The state government has signed a pact with the National Dairy Development Board with the aim of increasing the production of milk five times more than what it is now, he said.

The government plans to increase the number of Samitis from 9,000 to 26,000 to systematise milk production and collection, Yadav said.

The government will provide 125 acres to set up cowsheds, he said, adding that a provision for it has been made in the present budget. Yadav also said seven cowsheds and those who serve cows were given prizes for good work.

The cowsheds are in Bhopal, Damoh, Anuppur, Raisen, Chhindwara, Harda and Vidisha. He said that the cows injured on the road would be sent to cowsheds and that because of mosquito bites, the cows and other animals come to roads in the rainy season.

Vrindavan Gaon will be set up in every village in the state so that children may get cow milk, he said.
