Four Held For Providing 150 Fake SIMs To Cyber Conmen In Bhopal

Posing as police officer, cyber frauds contacted people offering them to sell furniture on low cost on pretext of transfers of police officials

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Cyber crime police on Tuesday busted a gang involved in providing fake SIM cards to people who duped people through fake facebook account of Bhopal Police Commissioner. Police have arrested four persons who confessed to have sold 150 SIM cards to cyber crooks. Earlier, police had arrested two persons involved in duping people through fake FB account of police commissioner.

As per reports, a complainant Mahesh Kumar claimed that he received a message on his messenger chat from a facebook account with display picture of Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra. The conmen offered him to buy old furniture and fooled him to transfer cash Rs 45,000 in their bank account through a QR code.

An FIR was lodged in this connection and two persons were arrested by police team. They were identified as Sunil Kumar Prajapati and Shakeel Mohd of Alwar district of Rajasthan.

The duo confessed to have duped people through fake facebook account of Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra.

The accused used to contact people while posing as Bhopal Police Commissioner and offered them to sell furniture on low cost on pretext of transfers of police officials. They used to fool people to transfer cash in their account on pretext of transportation and bills.

Following their interrogation, cyber cops identified four persons who provided them with fake SIM cards for making calls and using internet and social media.

They were arrested by crime branch team from Sironj in Vidisha district on Tuesday and were identified as Akash Namdev (19), Rahul Panthi (22), Vivek Raghuvanshi (22) and Sonu Singh Kurmi (22), all residents of Vidisha district. Four mobile phones, 36 SIM cards and some documents used for activation of SIM cards were seized from them.

Questioning from them revealed that the accused used to approach people of low income groups and collect their documents on pretext of giving them free SIM cards. However, the fraudsters used to take biometric fingerprints of people twice on some pretext and used their documents for activating two SIM cards.
