Civic Staff Tortures Stray Dog To Death In Bhopal

An FIR has been registered on Saturday against unidentified persons in this connection but the accused have been identified through the footage, police said.

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A municipal corporation staff and his aide allegedly tortured a stray dog and killed it at Siddarth Lake City in Anand Nagar under Piplani police station. A footage of the incident surfaced on social media following which some animal right activists approached police.

An FIR has been registered on Saturday against unidentified persons in this connection but the accused have been identified through the footage, police said.

Animal rights activist Champaram Rajput informed police that he received a video in which a stray dog was being brutally tortured and killed. Rajput traced the dog and found it dead with its mouth and limbs tied at Siddarth Lake City. Rajput checked CCTV footages in the area in which two persons are seen brutally torturing the dog on January 14.

In-charge at Anand Nagar police station Santosh Raghuvanshi said one of the persons seen torturing the stray dog in the footage has been identified as Nagar Nigam staff.

Investigations revealed that some locals feared that the dog may pose threat to their children and wanted to get rid of it. An FIR has been registered on complaint of Champaram and further action will soon be initiated, he added.
