Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A bundle of Tricolour was found burning at garbage dump under Shahpura police station of the city on Saturday. A video of the incident went viral on social media inviting public outrage.
Alleging that the small plastic flags were burnt by Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) employees, Congress leaders staged protest and demanded action against those responsible.
Meanwhile, the municipal corporation denied burning the flags and claimed giving a complaint to police demanding an investigation and action against the accused.
According to reports, some locals spotted small plastic Tricolours burning at a garbage dump at 12 number stop in ward number 50 in Shahpura area. Locals raised objection and saved the tricolours from burning.
Soon Congress workers reached the spot and staged protest at the local Municipal Corporation office. They claimed that Corporation workers were burning the tricolours for the last few days. Local BJP leaders also raised objection on burning national flags.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation denied involvement of its workers in burning the flags. In a press note issued in the evening, Municipal Commissioner said that taking serious note of the viral video, a complaint has been lodged at Shahpura police station against unidentified persons involved in desecration of national flags.
The Municipal Corporation is also carrying out an inquiry in this connection. DCP Zone-1 Shashank said an investigation has been launched after receiving complaint and persons involved in the incident will soon be identified.
