Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a unique case that has surfaced in Ashoka Garden area of Bhopal, a husband has accused his wife of committing ‘Love Jihad’, while his wife has alleged of forced religious conversion against her husband.
While the husband first approached police and claimed that his wife changed her name and married him fraudulently, the woman also alleged that she was forced to change her name and religion. Further investigations were being carried out after receiving complaints from both of them, police officials said.
According to reports, Shekhar Silawat of Narmadapuram works as an engineer in a factory and lives in Chanakyapuri area. On Tuesday, Shekhar approached Ashoka Garden police and claimed that he met a woman named Shreya on social media four years back.
The woman blackmailed him of framing him in a rape case and forced him to marry her at Arya Samaj Mandir. However, he recently learnt that the woman was a Muslim and her real name was Nilofar. Moreover, Nilofar is married and has three children. She was now pressuring him to keep her children with them and change his religion.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Nilofar aka Shreya also registered a complaint to police claiming that she married Shekhar at Arya Samaj Mandir with his consent and he was aware about her religion and real name. She alleged that she was forced to convert her religion by Shekhar. Nilofar said that she was divorced by her first husband and her three children live with their father.
In-charge at Ashoka Garden police station Hemant Srivastava said that primary investigations and scanning of documents indicate that Shekhar married the woman and was well aware of her real identity.
In some of the screenshots of social media chats, he called the woman as Nilofar. It has come to the fore that Shekhar wanted to marry another woman while Nilofar was against the marriage. Further investigations were being carried out in allegations made by the duo, he added.
